co-sleeper research

(baby in bed not in bed)

A long long time ago when babies in my life were as abstract as single life is to me now, my friend Brenda was having kids. You know how some things in life just stick to you, some sort of information which you are able to retrieve years later when in need?

Anyhow, that is what happened. Now as I am getting closer to having a tiny human outside my body I am trying to figure out many things I have no idea how I will actually deal with. I am a planner, so I want to have as much set up as possible and hope for the best in this new adventure I know nothing about.

So a long long time ago my friend told me how she used to rent this cosleeper thing that would go allow her newborn to be right next to her but not on the bed, and make nursing easier. This bassinet-like thing sounded like an amazing idea.

So I looked it up. When you search for co-sleepers basically the only one that comes up is the Arms Reach, which has the same concept, but is quite ugly and bulky, and what do you do with it when you are done? (these things are only useful for a few months!)

I was almost set on the halo bassinet, which did more or less what I wanted; but again, what to do with it afterwards? it didn’t fold or do anything useful for storage. And it is expensive.

I found this beauty online:

co_sleeper-copyIt is called Culla Baby. It is foldable and an Italian design, you can travel with it and make it into a rocking chair.  It is perfect because unlike the other co-sleepers I had found this one slides right into the bed frame so it is at the matress’ height and is easy to reach for baby and to nurse and go back to sleep.

And very sadly, impossible to find.

So what to do?

well I found an Australian product that is currently available in the US. It is called Bed Nest. It is a combination between the Israeli product at the top and the impossible Culla Baby. They also rent it out for up to 7 months for an appropriate price, which in my mind makes the most sense since then you don’t have to store something else. You can also fold it up for travel.

Will let you know how it goes once the baby dragon makes an appearance!

(P.S. We did! the packaging was nice, so was the service. The actuality of it wasn’t the best. I couldn’t get out of bed easily and making the bed was a huge struggle. After a few days we returned it. But, hey that is just my experience, it most work for some!)
