what I’ve been watching

Imagine Orange is the new black plus a bit of Oz with a lovely Australian accent and you got this show.

In a similar fashion to the Orange show while not only seeing the women and guards in prison, you get a back story every so often, trying to make you, the viewer, understand the actions. It is much more violent and crude than the Netflix show, hence the Oz reference.

The writing is nothing spectacular, the acting is quite good, the plot is the usual in these kind of tv shows, or so I thought. The twists and turns it takes, especially at the end of the second season, made me reconsider my grading. I loved the show.

The ‘almost innocent’ naive prisoner (in this case Bea Smith) who gets way too much attention from the powerful people and you get to watch how that transforms her life on the outside as well as the inside.

It does make you think, once more, on the prison system (even if it is on the other side of the world) and how effective it truly is. (especially if you keep seeing characters who were set free return after a short stint.)

Bottomline: Entertaining, violent. Great show. Especially second season. Can’t wait for the third season to be available on streaming.
